The Story behind the photo

There is a week, every spring, when the Chilterns hold their breath.

It happens in April, usually - the exact date shifts from year to year depending on the weather, the warmth, the particular rhythm of that season. The leaves have just come out, still tender and translucent, not yet the deep, settled green of summer. For a few days, the light that filters through them is unlike anything else in the natural world - vivid, almost electric, as if the trees are lit from within.

This path through Wendover Woods caught that moment.

The leaning trees that line it form a natural colonnade, their trunks tilting inward as if in conversation, the canopy above closing into a tunnel of fresh green light. The path curves gently ahead, disappearing into the brightness - an invitation you feel compelled to accept.

Wendover Woods is one of the Chilterns' best loved walking destinations, familiar to thousands of people who live within easy reach of it. But familiarity doesn't diminish it. If anything it deepens it - the knowledge that this path will be here next spring, and the spring after that, turning this particular shade of green for its brief, beautiful week before the season moves on.

This image is for everyone who has ever stopped on a woodland path and not wanted to keep walking.

Photographed at Wendover Woods, Buckinghamshire.

Here’s what makes each print special:

  • Ink: Canon Lucia Pro Pigment Inks

  • Printer: Canon imagePROGRAF PRO Series

  • Paper: Fotospeed NST Bright White 315 Signature Paper – a gorgeous 315gsm matte paper made from 100% cotton rag, with a soft, natural texture. It’s Fine Art Trade Guild–approved and, with these inks, is designed to last over 85 years.

The listed size is the paper size. Each print has a thin white border on the top, left and right, with a deeper white border on the bottom for signing and numbering. This means it’s easy to trim for US-standard frames. Prints are unframed and unmounted – this way, you can choose a frame that suits your home or workspace perfectly.

The Print

This photograph is part of a limited edition of just 35 prints, split between:

Each one is a hand-signed archival giclée print that I create myself in my home studio. I only sign and number a print once I’m completely happy with the quality, and every order comes with a certificate of authenticity – my personal seal of approval.
